Abortion rights activists claim it’s a choice, but is it?

By Dissident Teacher   Barack Obama campaigned for president under the pro-choice banner, but qualified it saying that the other side has a point.  Perhaps many pro-life people voted for President Obama because he gave them some respect that is rare from the other side, and he expressed decency.

Why are we becoming so inhumane?

A meet up in Los Angeles

A website called “Shout Your Abortion” treats stories of having an abortion as a reason to brag.  Falling into this mindset, Lena Dunham, said in a podcast, “I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.” One tweeter wrote back, “Normally I roll my eyes at Dunham’s silliness, but this made me so angry. An abortion isn’t something you get bc it’s ‘on trend.’” Dunham wants to be the influencer of young women, but frequently puts her foot in her mouth.  Dunham apologized when many people found her words offensive.

Dunham’s words and “shout your abortion” are symptomatic of the callousness and cruelty that is spreading through many aspects of society.  It’s a cold-heartedness that can easily overflow into other areas, and mob behavior can be cruel!!!  Yes, our political atmosphere is particularly toxic right now, but it’s shocking to find that young women are part and parcel of sickness.  Truthfully, these women promote that an ideology of killing babies is something about which to brag.

Another website called 1 in 3 claims to fight stigma of abortion. This campaign is named for a questionable statistic that 1 in 3 American women will have an abortion by age 45. The  Washington Post gives this claim two Pinocchios, because data used to come up with this statistic is flawed. The group has collected about 1,000 stories and plans to publish a graphic novel and produce a second play based on some of them as part of its 1 in 3 Campaign.

Prefer Pro-Life side to Pro-Choice

The feminist, pro-abortion position doesn’t consider the small, sentient, feeling, younger human life that is in the process of formation.  It is hard for me to understand why the feminists take the issue of that life so lightly.  Political questions aside, I have far more respect for the pro-life activists because they have a much stronger moral compass than the pro-choice group which is “me” centered.

Unlike former President Obama, abortion rights activists refuse to listen.  I find NARAL, a left-wing equivalent to the unreasonable, obstinate NRA, even more toxic and hard-hearted than Planned Parenthood.  Both groups spread their message of cold-hearted inhumanity to the younger generation.

Abortion is one of those political issues in which I see both sides of the issue quite clearly.  I have friends on both sides of the issues, including some who formerly supported abortion but have changed their minds.

I could never tell a woman who was raped or a woman whose life is in danger that she is wrong to abort, or could I judge someone for whatever reason. Besides, someone who was very close to my family had an abortion when I was a child, in 1968.  She was 21 and in a terrible situation, but the abortion nearly killed her. I will never forget her pain either.

So I’m with the 70% of the country who believes Roe vs. Wade should not be overturned, and it won’t be.  But I believe that abortion should be very rare — not 1 in 3 women of child-bearing age, as abortion rights activists claim.

How Abortion Rights Loses its Credibility

Going all the way back to 1990, when President George HW Bush claimed there would be no litmus tests for his Supreme court Justice nominees, he meant what he said. The National Organization for Women (NOW) went nuts over the nomination of David Souter for the Supreme Court and held rallies against him.  NOW President Molly Yard testified that Souter would “end freedom for women in this country.”  While I do not trust political parties tell the truth on most topics such as immigration and health care, individual politicians can break the mold.  Senator Susan Collins meant it when saying that she would have trouble supporting any Supreme Court justice who would overturn Roe vs. Wade. She received 68% of the vote in 2014, indicating the high level of trust with her constituents.

Feminist protesters acted crazy when Senator Collins refused to be controlled by them. It’s unclear if their focus was Roe v. Wade, anger that she didn’t side with Christine Blasey Ford, or if they simply didn’t want Brett Kavanaugh approved. (I also did not like Kavanaugh’s past history of investigating the Clintons.) They called Senator Collins a rape apologist, which undermines their integrity.

The tumultuous history of Roe vs. Wade reflects that it was based entirely on lie. Sarah Weddington, the lawyer behind it argued that it was a privacy matter, with the woman behind Roe claiming she had been gang raped.  Karma has reared up its ugly face on a case based entirely on lies. So why don’t pro-abortion activists understand that they brought this upon themselves?

Dr. Bernard Nathanson, one of the founders of NARAL, National Abortion Rights Activist League had an epiphany and changed his mind.  After the development of ultrasound in the 1970s, he witnessed a baby in the process of abortion trying to escape the suction cup. In a book called Aborting America he exposed what he called “the dishonest beginnings of the abortion movement.” In 1984, he directed and narrated a film titled The Silent Scream, in cooperation with the National Right to Life Committee, which contained the ultrasound video of a mid term (12 weeks) abortion. His second documentary Eclipse of Reason dealt with late-term abortions. He stated that he had used false figures about the number of deaths linked to illegal abortions while part of NARAL.

Pro-Abortion is More Accurate Term than Pro-choice

Pro-choice is one of the many terms political activists use to deceive. There is little in life over which we truly have choice. Do we choose the families we are born into?  We can’t choose whether or not to stay in school until we are 16. Do we choose to get a long-term auto-immune disease that leaves us disabled? Did my neighbor whose 80-year old parents who lost their home in a hurricane choose it?

Feminists frame Pro-Choice as a Pro-Woman issue more than it truly is. What I truly can’t understand about abortion activists is their ugly, screeching vigilance. Why are they so furious?  Why do they present pregnancy for some women and teens as the end of the world?

Some of these protesters use really ridiculous claims when they demonstrate. There is no “war on women.”

Abortion rights groups argue that an early pregnancy condemns mother and child to a low income for the rest of life.  I fully concur with their arguments that caring for life also means feeding clothing, educating and caring for the baby through adulthood, and having the funds to do it.  Also, if the father is not in the picture, the mother needs to get an education which is very difficult caring for the young.

On the other hand, the mother of Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and richest man in the world, became pregnant as unmarried 16-year-old in 1963. She ran off to Mexico and married her high school boyfriend. Her life and her son’s life worked out well, very well! Daughters of my friends who became pregnant as teenagers had their babies rather than an abortion. They now have degrees, stable jobs and marriages. Their children are doing well, even if their initial partners did not pay child support  Most teenagers, especially the boys, are not mature enough for parenthood, but an unplanned pregnancy can make teens mature more quickly.

Problems with taking a stand

In cases of rape, or if the mother has the measles which will create birth defects, or the mother won’t survive, why deny abortion?  If we know the child has a genetic disease, a fatal defect or other problems, it’s hard to say it’s best to let this child be born.

Mothers who would have given their children to adoption in earlier times now choose abortion, making it difficult for couples who can’t have children but want to adopt. Childless couples can adopt from other countries, but only with great difficulty and expense.  Foster children with drug-addicted parents are available, but they’re so difficult to raise because of biological and social problems from parental substance use.

When I hear of children who die in the first few years of life, because of a mother’s drug addiction, I often think that an abortion would have been the better choice if the mom was not going to get off drugs. (I believe we should do everything we can to get these mothers off drugs, for the children’s sake, and not separate them from the mothers)

When pro-abortion activists become vigilant vegans who condemn anyone who eats meat, I find them inconsistent.  How can they object to killing animals for food when they don’t mind killing babies?  Most young people really haven’t really sorted out the moral contradictions of this position.  Certainly both feminists and vegetarians/vegans aim to convert very young people, who like to latch onto ideas.

They aim to convert young women and teens, which means control their thoughts and beliefs and control their lives.

Will Roe vs. Wade be overturned?

If it was meant to happen, it would have occurred by now.  For a long time, I’ve been trying to find politicians who would refuse to take a stand on Roe v. Wade.

Having unlimited abortion available takes away any responsibility from the men or teen boys. It would be easy to argue that men have benefited most from abortion, since they aren’t held accountable for their actions. When we make mistakes, it’s easy to correct by getting an abortion, according to this philosophy. A high percentage of abortions are repeat abortions, and we know some people are using it as birth control.

I am one of those women who campaigned for abortion rights, only to realize later in life what a monstrous program the whole thing is. A child is a gift from God, it can be a blessing in the midst of a seeming tragedy such as an unexpected pregnancy. Recently saw the Gosnell movie and highly recommend it for all to see. We must face the reality that abortion is a taking of a life. And that women would be better off seeing the pregnancy to term and making provisions, whether it be adoption, a rushed wedding or extended family support to raise the child alone. In my opinion, we need to bring back chastity and saving sex for marriage.
